Originally discovered by chance in 1936 electroluminescence has long been used in the television industry. Every traditional cathode ray televisions (glass front tube) has lots of little blobs of phosphors coloured Red, Green or Blue embedded in the front screen. These blobs glow when excited by the magic we call telly. According to how excited each blob gets the viewer sees a picture across the whole screen and numerous blobs.

This same technology has been applied to Light Tape and we can now apply the glowing phosphors to any flat or curved surface in uniform or random shapes. The patented technology behind Light Tape is the key to its superiority in the manufacture and durability of this remarkable product. Remarkable because of the minute amount of power required to illuminate large areas (e.g. The Beetham West Tower, Liverpool, uses just under 300 meters of 2 inch wide tape to illuminate up either side of the 40 stories with a total power consumption of less than 600watts).

With added qualities such as long range visibility (tested by NASA as over 5 miles) and clear viewing through fog and smoke, the safety benefits are as numerous as the applications.

The unique manufacturing process makes lighttape the brightest on the market today, (traditionally applied phosphors use silk-screens leaving only one layer and many blank areas ) with six layers of phosphors no blank areas are left and true 180degree light is produced.

Honeywell plastics are used to coat and protect the phosphors so long life is ensured. The same plastics that are used to protect deep sea buoys have been specially incorporated into the outer laminate that envelops the finished strip or design. This makes it an excellent choice when considering and outdoor illumination especially in harsh weather situations.

Above all, the flexibility and low maintenance cost coupled with minimal running and installation costs, is what makes using Light Tape the right choice for any serious ecologically minded designer
